Picton

Our first mandatory stop on the South Island was Picton. Why mandatory, why that's where the ferries drop you off.

There's not much to say about Picton. It's a small town, where most of the revenue and business obviously turns around the many visitors being dropped off by the ferries every 4 hours. It has a nice flair though and a nice beach to relax when waiting for the ferry.

We also found a big and interesting second hand store just off the city centre road, where we spent some time browsing through things of times past.

The only other recommended stop is the tourist information centre (called i-Site in New Zealand), where you can update yourself on some information about what to do in the vicinity of Picton. We decided to head for the Queen Charlotte Track....
