LOTR Fangorn Forest

While bilge rat and I already visited a forest with real Ents here, we also wanted to visit the site they used for filming in the Lord of the Rings. Surprisingly it is very close to Rainbow Reach making us wonder if it also hosts real Ents.

Fangorn Forest is a grass hop away from Te Anau in the direction of Queenstown, resp. Invercargill. A few kilometres out of town you can turn left onto Kakapo road for 9 km and then left on Takaro road for 6 km and you're there.

Fangorn Forest can be seen on both sides of the road, which cuts right through the forest. The forest is really dense and has rich green colours. It also has some kind of ancient atmosphere as if the forest has been standing here for ages (which it probably has).

Filming took place on both sides of the road, so be sure to explore both.
